What to Expect from Breast Augmentation Surgery

Undergoing any type of surgery can make you feel restless and anxious. The unknown of going under the knife is enough to give you nightmares. As the most common plastic surgery procedure, however, breast augmentation surgery is nothing to be scared of. Here are some basic questions, answered.

How Long Does It Take?
The average breast augmentation surgery typically lasts around 1 hour.   During that time you will be under anesthesia so you won’t feel a thing.

breast augmentation surgery What Happens During the Surgery?
During the surgery, your doctor will make an incision either under your arm, under the breast, or around the nipple. A very precise pocket will be made to place the implant above or below the breast muscle, depending on what you previously had discussed. After the implant has been correctly placed, the doctor will then close the incision with stitches.

What Will Happen After Surgery?
After the surgical procedure, you will wait in a recovery room while you come out of anesthesia and in order for you to be monitored.

Once you are approved to go home, rest is typically required for the first day or two, and you have to avoid lifting or exercise for the first couple of weeks. If you are in any sort of pain, your doctor will likely prescribe you with some painkillers to help take the edge off and make you feel more comfortable.

Check-up Appointment
A few weeks to a month after your surgery, you will be required to go back to the doctor for a check-up appointment. Your doctor will inspect the incision site to make sure the stitches are properly dissolving and will make sure the swelling around your breasts has gone down.
