Things to Consider before your Breast Augmentation

We understand.  Sorting through the myriad of choices can be overwhelming when you’re considering breast augmentation.  That’s why we’re sharing a few of our most frequently asked questions related to breast augmentation here.

Should I get silicone or saline implants?  Choosing silicone or saline implants is a highly personal preference.  Both options are safe and have their individual benefits.  Most patients report that silicone implants feel more natural than saline.  Silicone also has fewer incidences of rippling.  However, the incision required to insert silicone implants is usually a bit larger.

Round or Teardrop Implants?  Gummy bear, otherwise known as teardrop implants, have been widely available outside the United States for years.  Recently, the FDA approved the implants for use int he US.  These implants are known for giving a more natural look after breast augmentation.  These implants have increased in popularity recently, and are currently one of the most popular choices on the market.

How do I choose the right implant size?  Again, choosing the right implant size is a personal decision.  We’ll work with you to ensure the size you choose is right for your body and you have realistic expectations of the outcome.  Not every body can handle every size implant, and we suggest using sizers in your bra to simulate the look of various sized implants.  This is a great way to visualize the results before you have the procedure.

How long does the recovery take?  Breast augmentation is typically an outpatient procedure.  You will be placed under anesthesia during the time it takes to perform the surgery.  While you can go home that same day, it’s best to plan to be away from work for about a week.  More aggressive physical activity should be postponed for a month or more.

If restoring the lost volume in your breasts and regaining a more youthful look is on your mind, give us a call for a consultation!  We’re happy to answer all these questions and more.
